Join us in 2025 for the USS L. Y. SPEAR (AS-36) Association Reunion in Branson, Missouri!   The reunion will be held September 17-21, 2025, at the Thousand Hills Resort Hotel & Conference Center. 

Join us in Branson in 2025!  This year our Branson reunion will be administered by Gatherings Plus who have been planning military and veteran reunions for over 20 years, specializing in the Branson area.  You will be able to register and pay online.  For more information and to download your registration form, click the "Reunions" link to the right.

The deadline to register is AUGUST 18th!
 

Remember - to attend ANY part of the reunion, you MUST register.

Status of the SPEAR

On Friday, July 9, 2010, the USS L. Y. SPEAR was awarded to Esco Marine, Inc. Ship Recycling Facility.  We anticipate the SPEAR's movement from Norfolk Naval Shipyard to Brownsville, Texas, to take place in the next couple of weeks, and will post updates here as they become available. 

July 16, 2010:  The SPEAR's status on the Naval Vessel Register (NVR) remains "Stricken, to be disposed of"; however, the Planned Disposition now reads "TO BE SCRAPPED".  Also noticed on the NVR is the removal of her custodian.

August 5, 2010:  The status on the Naval Vessel Register (NVR) is changed from "Stricken, to be disposed of" to "Stricken, to be disposed of by dismantling".

August 6, 2010:  The ship is scheduled to be towed sometime after August 20th.

August 20, 2010:  The SPEAR will depart Norfolk Naval Shipyard at 11:00 a.m. for Brownsville, TX.

September 3, 2010:  The SPEAR arrives at ESCO in Brownsville.

May 2011:  The SPEAR has been completely dismantled.
