When I reported aboard the Spear, Capt Annis, my department head (and a fine oral surgeon) let me know in no certain terms that he did not approve of 2 things: beards and motorcycles. Well, my only transporation at the time was a 1972 R60/5 (600cc) BMW motorcycle and I liked my beard. It was going to be a long 3 years... so shaved it off!! Kept the bike though (and got a car too!)
